📋 Florida Title & Paperwork

Can I Sell a Junk Car Without a Title in Florida?

Short answer: Yes, in most cases. If your vehicle is 10 model years or older, you're the registered owner, and there are no liens, you can sell to a licensed Florida salvage buyer with just a Bill of Sale and your valid ID.

Florida's 10-Year Rule Explained

Florida law provides a specific pathway for selling older vehicles without a title. The key threshold is 10 model years. A 2016 car sold in 2026 qualifies. A 2015 car does not.

You qualify to sell without a title if ALL of these are true:

  • ✅ Vehicle is 10 model years or older
  • ✅ You are the registered owner on file with the FL DHSMV
  • ✅ The vehicle has no active liens
  • ✅ Vehicle has valid Florida registration in your name

What you need to bring to the pickup:

  • 📄 Valid Florida driver's license matching registration
  • 📄 Bill of Sale (we provide the form at pickup)
  • 📄 Current vehicle registration
  • 🔑 Keys to the vehicle

If Your Car is Newer Than 10 Years

You'll need to order a duplicate title before we can complete the purchase. Here's the exact process:

  1. Apply for duplicate title using Florida DHSMV Form HSMV 82101
  2. Submit online at GoRenew.com, by mail, or in person at a DHSMV office
  3. Pay the $75.15 fee
  4. Wait 2–3 weeks for processing
  5. Once received, sign the back and we'll handle the rest

Special Situations

🚗 Inherited / Deceased Owner

You need to be the Personal Representative of the estate. Required documents: certified death certificate, Letters of Administration from probate court, and your valid ID. Florida's Small Estate Affidavit applies if total estate value is under $75,000.

🔧 Outstanding Loan / Lien

If there's an active lien, we cannot buy the car — it legally belongs to the bank. If you've paid off the loan but the title still shows a lien, you'll need a Lien Release Letter from the lender.

🌪️ Out-of-State Title

We accept titles from all 50 states as long as the title is properly signed over to us and matches your valid ID.

What Happens to My Liability After I Sell?

The moment we pay you and you sign the Bill of Sale, the vehicle becomes ours. We file a Notice of Sale with the Florida DHSMV through our licensed dealer channel, which immediately clears your name from any future liability related to that vehicle — including tolls, parking tickets, or accidents.

Skip the paperwork hassle

If your car qualifies, we handle all the Bill of Sale and title paperwork at pickup. You sign, we file. Done.
