What a Good Bill of Sale Includes

• Buyer and seller full legal names
• The vehicle's year, make, model, and VIN
• Odometer reading at the time of sale
• Sale price and date
• Signatures of both parties
• A statement that the seller is the legal owner and has the right to sell

The Odometer Rule Matters

For vehicles under 10 model years old, federal and Florida rules require an odometer disclosure at transfer. The seller states the mileage, and the buyer acknowledges it. Rolling back or misstating an odometer is a crime — and it's why honest buyers always record the reading.

Bill of Sale vs. Title Transfer

Both matter, and they're not the same thing:

• The title transfers legal ownership.
• The bill of sale records the transaction — who, what, when, and for how much.

If the vehicle is 10+ model years old and you're the registered owner with no liens, Florida may allow the sale using a bill of sale plus registration and ID even without a physical title — the so-called 10-year exemption.
